Frequently Asked Question (FAQ's)

1. What is a Pool Safety Compliance Certificate?

A Pool Safety Compliance Certificate in Victoria is an official document issued by a registered building surveyor or inspector, confirming that a swimming pool or spa barrier meets the safety standards outlined in the Building Regulations 2018. It’s essentially proof that your pool and its barrier are safe for people, especially children.

You need a valid certificate when:

  • Selling or leasing a property with a pool or spa

  • Constructing a new pool or spa

  • Building or modifying pool barriers

  • Operating a family day care or home care facility

  • Upon request by your local council or financial institution

A licensed inspector assesses your pool’s fencing, gates, and barriers to ensure they comply with safety regulations. The inspection typically takes about 45 minutes. If issues are found, you’ll receive a detailed report outlining necessary rectifications.

No, as long as the inspector has access to the pool area, your presence isn’t required. You’ll receive a comprehensive report via email, including photos and descriptions of any issues.

In Victoria, if your pool is non-compliant, a Form 24 – Certificate of Barrier Non-Compliance is issued, and you have up to 60 days to rectify the issues.
